Southside Strolls, Print & Play X Boijmans Hillevliet, 2020
Walking tours, maps and c/inkjet/laser-prints on paper
The series Southside Strolls is a collection of walking tours based around Juliette Gilsons observations from her walks during the months that the lockdown has lasted. The tours encourage fellow Rotterdammers and travellers to leave their usual paths and to drift around, as a way of (re)discovering their city during lockdown. The project focuses on places in Rotterdam that paradoxically form part of our daily surroundings but are often unknown or considered as ‘non-places’. Stroll 001 focuses on the area around the Waalhaven and its industrial decor characterised by fences, depots, containers, water, boats and its industrial soundscape.
'Print & Play' can be put anywhere and by anyone. All you need for this show is a printer and some office supplies. This package contains work by 10 artists that you can assemble and hang yourself - from photography and painting to video work and performance. Follow the instructions and choose where, how and even which of the works will be displayed in your exhibition. This way you can turn your bedroom, hallway or living room into a pop-up art gallery where the works of emerging artists from Rotterdam-Zuid are given a stage in your home. This autumn edition shows the work of Christine Ayo, Ulufer çelik, Gio Maisto Ferreira, Funzig, Juliette Gilson, Kwinnie Lê, John Padrino, Pris Roos, Bobby Sayers and Lotte Wieringa and is curated by Thieu Custers and Marieke van den Belt .
